South Orange is a beautiful town and home to about 17,000 people. A sister community to Maplewood, South Orange shares an excellent school system with Maplewood comprised of six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. South Orange’s well-respected Columbia High School offers advanced placement, college prep and vocational courses, classes in film making and journalism, 25 clubs, and 23 varsity sports.
Recreation is paramount to South Orange residents as well, and the town five baseball diamonds, 15 lighted tennis courts, a soccer field, a duck pond, and multiple playgrounds. The Baird Community Center offers a never-ending list of art and recreational opportunities to its residents. On November 3, 2006, the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) opened its doors to the public, permanently changing the scene in South Orange and adding to the landscape of arts leaders in New Jersey.
