I remember the killer noise when the cicadas emerged 17 years ago. However, I believe in taking the good with the bad, and you ALL know how much I love my towns and consider my home in Millburn-Short Hills NJ a treasure. A few bugs (or a million per acre—no joke!) isn’t enough to make me leave.

Though the cicadas stay outside, their noise will invade your Short Hills NJ home. What you’re hearing is bug love songs amplified to rock concert levels. It can be hard to take, but don’t worry. Your Millburn-Short Hills NJ home will go back to its regular level of noise by July.

One good thing cicadas do is aerate the soil in the yards of Millburn-Short Hills NJ homes as the nymphs dig their way out of the ground. Also, females lay their eggs in small tree branches. It’s a natural pruning job that causes trees to produce more fruit or blossoms next year. It’s not much consolation, but those of us who live in Millburn-Short Hills NJ are tough. We’ll get through this!

All they serve is food, real food, using “green” practices. You can also get a pretty good feel for the community by sitting in their outside dining or at a table near the window where you can see passers-by. A walk into the restaurant will show you it’s retro style and popularity gained through consistent service and good food, and the location can’t be beat!

Only about a block from the train and with parking (did I mention it’s free) in the back lot, “Food.” is easy to work into your day, if your a resident living in Millburn-Short Hills or call another midtown direct town home!

Weekday hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and dinner is served between 5 to 9 p.m. Friday nights the restaurant stays open until 10 p.m. and on Saturdays brunch begins at 9 a.m. through on Sunday extended hours allow dining between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dinner on the weekends is offered from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Until January 1st, if you live in South Orange NJ, you can visit the zoo animals and also be treated to some holiday cheer. The holiday lights shine from 5 to 9 p.m. using more than 100,000 bulbs in a variety of displays! With free admission, it’s worth the drive to take in the sights, even if you don’t have a home in South Orange. You can also warm your heart by donating non-perishable food and/or unwrapped new toys at the zoo. They will be disbursed to local children and families in need. If you appreciate the lights and are in search of more displays, you may enjoy a walk around the Livingston Oval (in front of the high school) or a trip over to the Paper Mill Playhouse Holiday Village, located at 22 Brookside Drive in Millburn NJ. The Holiday Village show includes more than 70,000 animated lights, that are timed to music and light up daily every twenty minutes between 6 and 9 p.m. The show only is available through Monday, December 24th and is sure to draw a crowd, so be prepared for lots of traffic!
